Maputo.

One the way to the airport we spotted the best representation of how crowded local transport gets with the pictured "Chapa". Also a first, our plane was late so they took a tractor out to the airstrip and put lanterns on either side of the runway for the turbo prop to land...basically by candle light. Pretty cool. We spent two days in Maputo, caught some of the local music and watched the Mozambique vs Kenya World Cup soccer qualifier match at a bar, Mozambique won 1-0 which made the game and the cheering fun...although the Kenya team that was staying at our hotel was less amused. There was a cool open air market with fish, veggies etc... and a touristy craft market. Overall it's been the most approachable African city we've been in so far, and the first city of any size where it was "safe" to walk...although Eberly got a little shake down from the police who were looking for a payday, apparently he sweet talked out of it. The music venue even had the first of what we'd almost consider Mozambiquian yuppies...albeit very musically tallented yuppies they at least came from enough wealth that they started to think about acting and looking cool. Loved the beaches and diving in Mozambique, just wish it was closer.
